The tell-tale signs of water leakage
There are certain common signs that indicate the chances of pipe leakage. Keeping an eye out for areas which appear damp or discolored. Let’s look at some of these common areas that should be monitored and how to tackle them.
Kitchen sink area: This area is prone to water leaks. Periodically check these pipes by running your finger along the pipes beneath the sink area. You may even observe some bubbling at the pipe connections. If you detect such issues, use a set of pliers to tighten the fittings. Damaged or corroded pipes should be replaced immediately.
Secondary connections to the wet area: Ensure that any such connections, for instance pipelines to the dishwasher or washing machine, are firmly fitted with no trace of moisture. It is a good practice to replace the washing machine hose every 3–5 years.
Toilets: Check to see if your toilet cistern is leaking, one clever way to detect this is by putting some food colouring in the flush tank. If your bidet sprayer is malfunctioning, close the connecting tap and get the same fixed or replaced at the earliest.
Bathrooms: If the water pressure in your shower is low, it could be due to lime scale build-up. Clean your shower heads every three months. If it’s really bad, consider buying a new shower head or hose. Also note that high-pressure water wear out pipes faster, which increases the chances of a water leak.
Taps: Considering the water crisis, dripping taps must be attended to immediately. It involves a simple task of washer replacement.
