What is an “OPEN BOX SALE”?

We have to admit that there’s something truly satisfying about buying brand new items, even if millions of people around the world own the same smartphone or TV, this one is truly yours.

An open-box item looks and feels brand new (apart from some dents and scratches), although its packaging sometimes shows some wear and tear. But we hardly ever buy a product for the outer carton box it comes in, do we ?
Open-box products are often demo pieces that cannot be sold as “brand new”. Some of the products may have never even been switched on, but have merely been removed from their packaging at some point in time. As an event, these products are discounted sometimes heavily, even though they function as brand new.
Alternately open-box items could also be goods returned by customers, inspected by the retailer, found to be in working order, and re-sold at a discount, rather than being returned to the OEM. Though most associated with taped-up boxes on tables and special displays at brick and mortar retailers, open-box electronics are now also offered online.

In addition, open-box items may be covered by the manufacturer’s new goods warranty. Check with the store who will honor the warranty in case of a product failure i.e.the retail store or the OEM. If the original customer of the item did not send in the warranty card and it’s in the box, as is sometimes the case, you can send it in to initiate the warranty. Even without such a card, your open-box item may be covered under the warranty anyway, though you may not easily be able to confirm such coverage with the manufacturer before you buy. Nonetheless, you should always retain your goods sales receipt and try pursuing your claim in the event the product fails within the warranty period promised.

Most chances are that an open-box item will work just fine however if outer appearances matter to you then check for dents, scratches, or other blemishes. All accessories are usually present, though sometimes the manual may be missing.
Most importantly you need to put aside your personal fears and be open to buying goods through an Open-box Sale. Most retail stores like Vijay Sales, Reliance Digital, Digi1 and online stores like flipkart and amazon have Open Box Sales on electronics including TV, Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Microwave Ovens, Dryers, Air Conditioners, round the year.
Go on save some big money 🙂
