How to connect your Computer to your TV?

You do not have to spend a small fortune to get all the features of the latest smart TVs. One cheap and easy way to get the internet on your TV is to connect it to your laptop. Connecting your laptop to your TV is actually very easy and  all you need is the right cable, lead or streaming hardware and you’ll be watching content from your laptop on your television in no time.  The easiest way to connect the two is with an HDMI cable.

What cables do I need to connect my laptop to a TV?
Connecting a laptop to a TV via a HDMI cable is the best and easiest way, as cables are cheap and provide the best quality HD picture and sound. It only requires one lead too, as HDMI handles both video and audio. In order to connect your laptop to your TV you are going to need to take a look at what ports are available on both your laptop and TV. Unless your laptop is really old, or was a super-budget model, it should have an HDMI output. Virtually all TVs made in the last six years or so also have HDMI ports.

Step 1: Place your laptop near the television or ensure that your desktop computer is located close enough to reach it via the HDMI cable. Make sure that both your computer and your TV are switched off.
Step 2: At the back of your computer or sides of your laptop is the HDMI socket. It looks a bit like a USB socket but isn’t rectangular. It will be labelled ‘HDMI’.
The HDMI cable looks the same at each end. It doesn’t matter which end you plug into your computer. Plug one end in now.
Step 3: There’s a flap on the front or side of your TV or on the back near the power cable. Under it, you’ll find all sorts of buttons and input sockets. Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the TV via the HDMI socket you’ll find under the flap.
Step 4: Turn on your TV. Use the ‘AV’ button on the remote control to select the AV input ‘PC’.
Step 5: Turn on your computer. It will now carry out a ‘handshake protocol’ with your TV. Your TV will feed information to the computer about the format it needs in order to accept video. When your TV is set to the correct HDMI channel, the laptop will automatically configure to give you the best settings from here. The information from your computer will now start appearing on your TV screen. Your TV is now your computer screen
